AFRICAMPS HOEDSPRUIT, LIMPOPO
A glamping safari around a magnificent dam near Kruger
Essential to the AfriCamps Hoedspruit experience is one of our 8 guided game drives departing from the camp! Choose between tours to Kruger National Park, nearby private game reserves, the Panorama Route, the Blyde River Canyon, a sunset game drive, a guided nature walk, or a local village tour including traditional local cuisine. Find out more about our tours on the activities page.
It is no mystery why Hoedspruit in the Greater Kruger area is referred to as the Safari capital of South Africa, considering its perfect location close to Kruger National Park and some of the best-known private game reserves in the country for Big 5 viewing. Hoedspruit is located at the foot of the Klein Drakensberg Mountain, just west of Timbavati Game Reserve and Klaserie Nature Reserve, and within half an hour’s drive of Kruger’s Orpen gate.
Apart from the wildlife, visitors flock to the area to explore the Panorama Route’s jaw-dropping landscapes and cultural heritage. The Panorama Route includes all the most beautiful views and vistas, waterfalls and natural wonders of the South African Lowveld. Points to check off your list are Graskop Gorge, Pinnacle Rock, God’s Window, Wonder View, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Three Rondavels, and Blyde River Canyon. Remarkable waterfalls to include on your itinerary are Lone Creek Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Sabie Falls, Forest Falls, Mac Mac Pools, Mac Mac Falls, Berlin Falls, and Lisbon Falls. These can all be viewed on your route between AfriCamps Hoedspruit and AfriCamps at Mackers in Hazyview.
Combine all of this with South Africa’s best weather! December to February can reach up to 40˚C and winter months’ average temperature is 24˚C. Are you ready to soak up the African sun on safari in Limpopo?

Your Hosts
The farm has been in the Roux family for over 70 years since it was bought in 1948. Louwtjie’s parents, Louw and Rebekka Roux took over the farm in 1989, to retire.
Louwtjie, who is also a qualified guide, fulfilled his career in tourism and nature conservation in the Kruger National Park, and thereafter in 1999, dedicated himself to the family farm as the fourth generation to settle here, with the ambition to create a homely tourist destination. The farm has since been a popular fishing, nature and safari destination, and from 1 November 2019, the newest addition to AfriCamps Boutique Glamping.
For the Roux’s, the opportunity to provide a travel destination that boasts comfort, style, homegrown hospitality, and rugged African bushveld, has always been an ambition. They consider providing a gateway to the Kruger National Park and the beautiful wilderness of the Lowveld, and providing travellers with an unforgettable experience, a privilege.
Check-in and check-out
Check-out: before 10:00 on day of departure
Check-in arrangements need to be made and guests are kindly requested to inform the specific AfriCamps host of their estimated time of arrival. This way you are ensured of a smooth check-in experience. You will receive the host’s telephone number in your bookings confirmation email. For check-in after 5pm please call the hosts at the camp to make arrangements. You will receive an sms message from your host in advance of your stay.
Malaria risk
Although Hoedspruit is a low risk malaria area, we recommend you consult your doctor about the necessary precautions, especially if you are visiting Kruger National Park during your stay. Your doctor will have the most up to date information about low, medium, and high risk areas.
Malaria is mosquito borne disease transmitted exclusively through the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito. The highest risk period is between November and April – the end of the summer rainy season.
Music
Out of consideration for fellow guests, no noise, parties or music is allowed in the camp unless the guest has booked the entire camp. This is a family-friendly camp and we aim to maintain a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
Activities on the farm
Swimming
Go for a dip at the camp pool or unwind with a drink while watching from the poolside.
Canoeing
Guests are welcome to use the dam for rowing – the perfect place to angle from. Please bring your own canoes or kayaks and oars.
For the kids
Guests are welcome to bring bicycles for the kids. The kids love cycling around the camp. Take the kids to see how the game is fed! Feeding of the game takes place between 17h00 and 18h00 daily.
Wood-fired Hot Tubs
All 11 tents have their own wood-fired hot tub. A wood-fired hot tub is the purest form of relaxation. After a day of exploring, relax while listening to the calming crackle of the fire. Or use it as a splash pool on the hotter days. Hoedspruit can reach temperatures in the 40s, so the private splash pool will be the hero of your glamping site in summer.
Fishing
This AfriCamps location is perfect for avid fishermen as all 11 tents are located on the dam. This spot has been a favourite among local fishermen for years and you can catch Carp, Bass, Bream, and Barbel typically weighing 10kgs!
Please note the following important fishing rules – we love our fish!
Carp Fishing: Only specimen anglers with correct fishing gear are allowed to fish carp. Fishing is strictly catch-and-release, no fish are allowed to be kept in keepnets. Unhooking mat is compulsory and available at the camp. Weight slings only – no lip grippers are allowed. Guests are only allowed to fish carp with one hook and 1 swivel. The minimum line capacity is 15lb / 6.8kg. Carp should be handled in the water only, using an unhooking mat and landing net. No holding fish in gills. No breaking off. No carp sacks are allowed. No uncooked or dry bait is allowed.
Bass, Bream, Barbell Fishing: All fish are catch-and-release. Please handle the fish respectfully. No throwing of fish, please release them in the water safely.
Please enquire from your host, Louwtjie for any specific fishing-related questions before arrival to make sure you have everything you need.
