AFRICAMPS AT MACKERS, HAZYVIEW

Glamping on the banks of the Sabie River, close to Kruger National Park

BOOK NOW!

AfriCamps at Mackers, nestled in the lowveld between Hazyview and Sabie is the perfect place to relax and explore the beautiful Mpumalanga bush, the breathtaking Panorama Route, and the untamed Kruger National Park area. The camp is perfect for families, couples or close friends who want to break away from the busy city, looking for peace and tranquility – without breaking the bank! AfriCamps at Mackers is a peaceful oasis for those who enjoy nature at its best in an undisturbed environment.

Apart from the variety of exciting and adrenalin-filled attractions in the area, the camp’s sights and sounds are sure to win you over. Hear the bush babies and owls at night from the comfort of your fully equipped boutique glamping tent, walk a few meters to dip your toes in the soothing Sabie river, cast your fishing lines, bring a tube to experience the thrill of the lazy river, unwind by the beautiful infinity swimming pool under the warm Lowveld sun, or hike along the river to see wild rapids upstream.

The camp is perfectly positioned to spend at least a day in the Kruger National Park spotting the Big 5, or driving along the Panorama Route experiencing the breathtaking scenery. God’s Window, 3 Rondavels, Bourke’s Luck potholes and the Blyde River Canyon are all spectacular sights worth a visit. Your hosts, owners Ryan and Michelle McKain will gladly arrange tours for both routes.

AfriCamps at Mackers is located in the beautiful Sabie Valley Nature Conservancy which is home to more than 250 bird species, so remember to bring your birding book and binoculars along, listen to birdsong from your riverside deck, or while enjoying a massage treatment.

The camp’s honesty shop adds a special touch to the experience. Kids can borrow a selection of games and fishing rods, mom and dad can stock up on some essentials, and you can get ice creams and cold drinks too. Kids can enjoy time in the Kids Zone painting and drawing. Find a rock to paint and leave it in the garden for us to remember that you were here.

Your Hosts

AfriCamps at Mackers is located in the beautiful Sabie Valley Nature Conservancy between Sabie and Hazyview. Ryan and Michelle Mc Kain – the “Mackers”, hail from the East Rand in Gauteng, where they both ran successful businesses. Ryan, a real sports fanatic, ran a screenprinting business and Michelle had a Corporate Promotional business. The farm was discovered whilst on a holiday to the Panorama Route and Kruger National Park. The couple is passionate about wildlife and they are avid birders, making this farm ideal as it has more than 250 species for them to watch.

The farm is only a 25-minute drive from the Phabeni Gate of the Kruger so whenever time allows, they like to pop into the Kruger for a drive. Tired of the ‘mad Joburg Rush’ they decided to invest in their piece of heaven and have been enjoying their decision ever since.

The farm offers absolute peace and tranquillity and both host and hostess enjoy the fact that they are able to share the beauty of their farm with visitors from all over the world. Ryan and Michelle have three sons who are not residents on the farm but take every opportunity to come back for a visit. First on the list is nature and beauty, but they also enjoy a game of golf at the Sabi River Sun Golf Club.

Check-in and check-out information

Check-in: From 14h00
Check-out: Before 10h00 on the day of departure

Contactless check-in is currently being practiced. Check-in and check-out procedures will be sent to the guest via email on confirmation of the booking.

Malaria Risk

Although Hazyview is a low-risk malaria area, we recommend you consult your doctor about the necessary precautions, especially if you are visiting Kruger National Park during your stay. Your doctor will have the most up to date information about low, medium, and high risk areas.

Malaria is mosquito borne disease transmitted exclusively through the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito. The highest risk period is between November and April – the end of the summer rainy season.

Music

Out of consideration for fellow guests, no noise, parties or music is allowed in the camp unless the guest has booked the entire camp. This is a family-friendly camp and we aim to maintain a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.

Activities on the farm

Swimming
After a long day’s sightseeing or game viewing, a dip in our beautiful infinity pool is a great way to refresh and relax. Get a drink from the honesty shop and soak up the afternoon sun.

The Sabie River rock pools in front of the tents are just as inviting. Kids love tubing and playing at this spot while their parents keep an eye on them from the braai. Depending on the flow of the river, grade 3 river rapids can be enjoyed by experienced rowers, so bring your kayak along.

Fishing
Cast your fishing lines anywhere along the Sabie River and try your luck at catching Yellow Fish.

Bird watching
Birdlife is abundant on the farm, with over 250 species to admire.

Hiking trails
Explore the river and hike to some raging river rapids upstream. The hike is a great activity for birders as the property is home to more than 250 bird species.
