What is AfriCamps?

AfriCamps is a collection of boutique glamping camps across South Africa, where nature and comfort come together. Stay in a fully equipped glamping tent with all the essentials, including a kitchen, private bathroom, cosy beds, and outdoor living space. Get closer to nature, without compromising on life’s little luxuries like electric blankets, air conditioning and indoor fireplaces!

What is glamping?

Glamping, short for “glamorous camping”. Our version of glamping is our custom-designed fully equipped tents. Glamping gives you the chance to enjoy nature, fresh air, and beautiful surroundings without sacrificing comfort. At AfriCamps, you’ll stay in a fully furnished glamping tent complete with comfortable beds, a private bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, and all the little comforts that make a getaway feel effortless.

How many AfriCamps locations are there?

AfriCamps offers glamping experiences at 19 locations across South Africa, including the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and North West. View all our camp locations here.

AfriCamps combines nature, comfort, and convenience. Guests can enjoy outdoor experiences, beautiful scenery, and unique destinations while still having access to comfortable beds, private bathrooms, equipped kitchens, fireplaces, and modern amenities.

Is AfriCamps suitable for families?

Absolutely! Families are at the heart of the AfriCamps experience. Our spacious glamping tents sleep up to five guests, giving families plenty of room to relax, reconnect, and make memories together. From farm adventures and wildlife encounters to swimming, hiking, cycling, and wide-open spaces to explore, there’s plenty to keep little adventurers entertained while parents enjoy a well-deserved break.

Is AfriCamps suitable for couples?

Absolutely! AfriCamps is a favourite for romantic getaways, anniversaries, mini-moons, and weekend escapes. We designed our premium tents specifically for couples, with added luxuries like king-size beds, private outdoor wood-fired hot tubs, and extra space to relax, reconnect, and enjoy time together in nature. 

What is included in an AfriCamps tent?

Everything you need for a comfortable self-catering stay. AfriCamps tents include a fully equipped kitchen, private bathroom, comfortable beds with linen, an indoor fireplace, air conditioning, electric blankets, braai facilities, an outdoor deck and your very own outdoor wood-fired hot tub! Are there different types of tents?

Yes, we offer Classic Tents at all our locations, and we offer Premium Tents at a selection of locations. Our Classic Tents can accommodate up to five guests, making them ideal for families and close friends. Our Premium Tents are designed specifically for couples and accommodate two adults. You can find out more about our two tent types here.

How many people can stay in an AfriCamps tent?

Do all AfriCamps tents have hot tubs?

All AfriCamps locations offer tents with hot tubs, however, at our camps in Oudtshoorn and Plettenberg Bay, there are a few Classic Tents without hot tubs. When booking, simply check the tent type and amenities listed to see whether a hot tub is included with your stay.

Do the tents have private bathrooms?

Yes. Every AfriCamps tent has its own private en suite bathroom, complete with a hot-water shower, toilet, and basin. 

Are the tents air-conditioned?

Yes. Most AfriCamps tents include air-conditioning* as well as indoor fireplaces and electric blankets for year-round comfort.

*AfriCamps Addo (Eastern Cape), AfriCamps Waterberg (Limpopo), and AfriCamps at Kam’Bati, Swellendam (Western Cape) operate entirely on solar and therefore do not include air-conditioning.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes, all camps offer Wi-Fi on the property, most of which is available in the tents. Some camps offer Wi-Fi in communal areas only. We recommend checking the amenities listed for your chosen camp before booking so you know exactly what to expect.

Are the tents self-catering?

Yes! Every AfriCamps tent comes with a fully equipped kitchen, so you can cook, braai, and dine at your own pace. You’ll find everything you need, including cooking appliances, crockery, cutlery, and cookware. If you’d like to keep things simple, our cook-your-own breakfast and braai baskets are available to pre-order. 

Do the camps have backup power?

Our camps are equipped with backup power. Depending on the location, you’ll find inverter systems, solar power or other backup power solutions to help keep your stay as comfortable as possible. Backup facilities vary by camp, so we recommend checking your chosen camp page for details. 

How do I make a booking?

Booking your stay is easy. Simply visit the AfriCamps website, choose your preferred camp from the Camps menu, click on Book Now, select your travel dates and tent type, and complete your booking online.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes. To secure your booking, a 50% deposit is required. The remaining balance is due one month before your arrival. If your stay is within a month, full payment is required upon booking.

Can I change my booking dates?

If you’d like to change your booking dates, email our team at hello@africamps.com. We’ll do our best to assist, subject to availability. View our full booking terms and conditions.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellation fees depend on how far in advance your booking is cancelled. Cancellations must be sent to us via email at hello@africamps.com.

Cancellations made more than 90 days before arrival will incur a 25% cancellation fee. Cancellations made 30-90 days before arrival will incur a 50% cancellation fee. Cancellations made less than 30 days before arrival, or after check-in in the case of early departure, will incur a 100% cancellation fee.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes! An AfriCamps gift voucher is the perfect way to treat someone to a getaway in nature. Our gift vouchers can be used towards stays at any AfriCamps locations and are available to purchase online. Interested? Purchase a gift voucher here

Are children welcome?

Of course! All AfriCamps locations are child-friendly. Kids ages 0 to 2 stay free of charge. Kids aged 3-16 are R295 per night.

Is AfriCamps suitable for families?

Do you provide cots and high chairs?

Yes. All AfriCamps locations can provide a baby cot and high chair on request, subject to availability. Please let us know before you arrive so we can do our best to have everything ready for your stay.

Activities vary from camp to camp, so there’s always something new to discover. Depending on where you stay, you can enjoy:

Are dogs allowed at AfriCamps?

We know dogs are part of the family too! That’s why a selection of AfriCamps locations is dog-friendly. One small or medium-sized dog is welcome per tent by prior arrangement. Additional fees may apply. View our pet policy.

Can I leave my dog unattended in the tent?

No. Dogs may not be left unattended and should be kept under control at all times for the comfort of all guests. View our pet policy.

Is South Africa a good destination for a self-drive holiday?

Absolutely! South Africa is one of the world’s best self-drive destinations, with well-maintained roads, spectacular scenery, incredible wildlife, charming small towns and scenic mountain passes. It’s the perfect way to explore the country at your own pace. 

Can international visitors stay at AfriCamps?

Yes! AfriCamps welcomes guests from all over the world. Many international visitors include AfriCamps as a ‘must-do’ on their South African trip.

How many days do I need for the Garden Route?

We recommend allowing 5 to 10 days to explore the Garden Route. This gives you plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, discover charming towns, and experience the best attractions along the way without feeling rushed.
